What each layer is responsible for, and the decision that usually matters most when you specify it for a distribution environment.

  • Wireless access points

    Carry scanners, mobile devices and staff traffic. Coverage and roaming across aisles drive the design. Where units go outdoors or into a dock environment, we confirm the model’s official environmental rating from manufacturer documentation first.

  • PoE access switches

    Power and connect access points, cameras and phones from closets that are often spread across a large footprint. Port count and PoE budget size each closet.

  • Aggregation and distribution switching

    Collects closets from across the floor and the attached office into a single path, with the uplink capacity to carry camera and scanner traffic together.

  • Firewalls and routing

    Handle the site internet edge, connectivity back to head office or other sites, and separation between operational systems and general traffic.

  • Optics and fiber uplinks

    Cover the distances copper cannot. Warehouse runs frequently exceed 100 metres, so the optic, fiber type and platform support all have to line up.

Distribution centers

Large footprints with continuous scanning activity. Coverage consistency across the whole floor matters more than peak capacity in any one spot.

Storage aisles

Racking creates the hardest RF conditions in the building, and they change as stock levels change. Placement here is survey-driven.

Shipping and receiving areas

Concentrated scanning, label printing and staging. These zones usually need their own coverage rather than spillover from the main floor.

Loading docks

Open doors, vehicles and weather exposure. Equipment placed in these conditions needs a verified environmental rating for the location.

Barcode scanners

Roaming clients that are sensitive to handoff, not bandwidth. Access point overlap and consistent settings matter more than raw speed.

Security cameras

Continuous PoE draw and steady upstream traffic, often mounted at height and at the far end of long cable runs.

Attached offices

Standard office requirements sharing the same site infrastructure, usually served from their own closet and segment.

Warehouse expansions

New bays or a second building need uplinks back to the core and hardware consistent with what is already installed.

We cannot guarantee wireless coverage from a floor plan. Access-point placement and quantity depend on ceiling height, racking, construction and how the space is used, and a site survey is the reliable way to determine them. Any equipment intended for outdoor, dock or wash-down areas is checked against the manufacturer’s official environmental rating before we recommend it.
